What is “slow meat”?

How does Träskkulla Ekobeef "slow meat" differ from other meat?

  • Our cows live in a stress-free environment where they can smell the flowers and live out their natural behaviors.

  • Good animal care means that our beef cattle are well taken care of and have a calm and natural environment from calving to slaughter.

  • The cows only eat grass during the summer, and our own preserved grass during the winter. This helps maintain a healthy level of omega-3 and omega-6, resulting in healthier meat.

  • The animals grow slowly, which enhances the flavor and tenderness of the meat. They have over 30 percent longer growth time than other animals.

  • Our meat is dry-aged for a minimum of seven days before cutting and packaging. The aging process continues in the vacuum packaging until it is opened or frozen.

  • Our farming and animal practices are organic, creating an environmentally friendly production chain that is free from harmful chemicals. Thanks to good food and a lot of outdoor time, our animals stay healthy, eliminating the need for antibiotics.

  • Our goal is to provide tender meat with great flavor while offering the healthiest meat available.

Currently, we have around 200 animals on our farm and slaughter regularly, every other week. Our own production is currently not enough to meet the demand, so we purchase slaughter animals from selected farms that follow the same rearing principles as us. We guarantee the same meat quality as our own.

Meat consumption and carbon dioxide emissions

Today, there's a lot of talk about reducing both meat consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), domestic pasture-raised beef production is the most environmentally friendly option when it comes to consuming beef. Pasture-raised beef production is the beef production method that generates the least CO2 per kilogram of meat.

We participate in the national Naseva health monitoring program, whose goal is to document and follow up on quality information and animal husbandry practices. The program involves a veterinarian that makes annual visits to our farm.

All slaughtering takes place in the nearby village Kållby at the small-scale Tajma slaughterhouse, where Träskkulla Ekobeef is also one of the co-owners.

Träskkulla Ekobeef produces and markets organic beef. Träskkulla Ekobeef is an EU- certified organic farm located in Lövö, Pedersöre.
